Multiple Ways you can Use Polycarbonate

Majority of our Duralon clients use polycarbonate for skylight roofing. But boasting a lot of excellent qualities, it is no surprise that polycarbonate can be used in multiple other applications, that may or may not be exclusive to the construction industry. Here are few ways you can use polycarbonate sheets other than roofing purposes:

1. Sound Barriers

Sound barriers are significant materials in expressways because it minimizes the effects of sound and noise pollution to communities in close proximity to these areas. These sound barriers are installed strategically in noise sensitive areas such as living communities, schools, hospitals, etc., and are effective enough to make the sound emitted by vehicles tolerable. Among our recent applications, Duralon blue solid polycarbonate sheets were used in the CALAX and NAIAX expressways as sound barriers to protect the living conditions surrounding the area.

2. Race Car Windows

Polycarbonate is a material known to be 250 times stronger than glass. With such impact resistance and versatility, it is no surprise that polycarbonate can also be used in race car windows. Because these are lightweight and flexible, they can be easily customized depending on the car requirements and can be removed or installed if required. Not only are they used in car windows, they can also be used in commercial applications such as hospitals and schools because of their durability and ease of use. One of our projects also used solid polycarbonate for their racing car windows. You can watch it on our YouTube video.

3. Appliances

Polycarbonate is also of the plastics that are found in appliances. Because of its ability to withstand extreme temperatures, it can be used in blenders, refrigerators, coffee makers, etc.

4. Bulletproof Glass

Yes, polycarbonate can also be used as bulletproof glass, but it is not the same as the ones you can buy from your local construction supplier, nor used on roofing applications, nor can they be easily found in local stores. This is because these are customized and specialized to resist such strong impact. It is classified under Levels 1-3, which means that it is commonly used in commercial applications like hospitals, bank establishments, retails stores, and government properties. It is a cost-efficient material that does the job efficiently with a good ratio from its price.

5. Medical Apparatus

Polycarbonate is a popular alternative to glass in medical applications such as medical tubes and apparatus because of its superior clarity, optimal durability, and strong resistance to heat. It is highly resistant to immediate breakage which can cause accidents and has passed the rigid safety industry tests, making it an ideal choice.

Polycarbonate has proven its capability as a versatile material suitable for multiple applications outside the construction industry.
